What does my subscription cover?
Emergency ambulance transportation for you, members of your household and visitors at your home to the closest appropriate hospital (determined by your medical problem) within a 10 mile radius of your home.
What doesn’t my subscription cover?
Your subscription does not include non-emergency ambulatory (capable of walking or transport by a wheelchair) patients. A person in this category does not require medical treatment in an ambulance and could find another means of transportation. Examples of such would be: Direct admission ordered by your personal physician form your home to a hospital, from hospital to rehab facility or visits to a doctor’s office. Unfortunately, Medicare and insurance carriers do not take into consideration a patient’s condition in regards to these types of transportation. We will still transport you in these types of situations but you will be billed a reduced rate for these transports if you become a subscriber.
*Note: This program is not an insurance product and this is not an offer for the sale of an insurance policy. Membership is not a contract for the provision of emergency or non-emergency services at any specified time and all services are subject to availability. Services may be provided by mutual aid services during a time when EAPS is unavailable, however these mutual aid services will honor your EAPS subscription.
Subscriptions provide the basic funding for your ambulance service. This funding ensures the best ambulance service that can be provided. We are staffed 7 days a week 24 hours a day by highly trained Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians certified by the PA Department of Health. Federal Law requires ambulance services to collect co-payments and deductibles.
If I am not a subscriber to EAPS, can I still use EAPS services?
Subscription is not a requirement, and yes you can still use our services, Non subscribers however, will be responsible for a higher out of pocket expense and be responsible for any unpaid balance of the bill not paid by their insurance carrier.
What is Third Party Billing?
Third party billing is the process where EAPS recoups its operating costs by charging your insurance carrier for ambulance service the same way a hospital or a doctor does.
My insurance covers ambulance trips so why should I subscribe?
It is important to remember that although your insurance company may pay the ambulance bill, Federal Law requires ambulance services to collect co-payments and deductibles. Some times these fee’s can be as high as $300.00 or more!
Subscribing will allow you to avoid these charges. In addition, subscribing does more than protect you from incurring an expensive ambulance trip, It also ensures that EAPS can provide the best possible emergency medical care to you and your family.
How long does my subscription last?
Subscription coverage last for one year, starting April 1 and running through March 31st of the following year. Sorry, we cannot prorate your subscription. This means if you renew your subscription part way through the subscription year, it will still run out March 31st.
What should I do with a check that I receive from my insurance company?
Any check that you receive from your insurance company should be sent to EAPS. As this is payment for your ambulance trip. If you receive a check for service by EAPS and do not turn it in to EAPS your ambulance subscription will become void.
Where does my money from the billing of my insurance and money from my subscription drive an donations go?
EAPS is a non profit organization and all money received from billing. Subscriptions and donations are used for the purchase of the state of the art equipment, vehicles, training, staffing and education.
